Extended Practice Brief #5: Design Development Business Cards & Postcard Refinements [Ruban X Graphic Design]

After my first meet up with Ruban I had to make major changes to the business card, instead of pale muted colours she preferred greys and blacks and something very minimal therefore I had to change the designs in those business cards. She also mentioned wanted it portrait therefore I had to change it to that layout as well.

Here are the designs I made:

1)2)

3)4)5)

6)7)

Unlike landscape business card, it felt like I had more space to play around with the information I had. The idea for these business card layouts was to make it feel like a poster, adding dynamic elements to it like wide kernings (1-7) for in order to also make the space feel full, despite the minimal design and colour. I also tried to make it two toned (1-5) as Ruban mentioned an interest in it, and I think it kind of adds some depth to the business cards however pushing more with the idea, I don't think it work as well as I thought as they became distracting and out of place instead. Laying out the information in contrasting directions gave the business card better spacial feel especially (2 & 7) and with the logo in the circle (which is going to be embossed) gives the illusion of it being 'full'.
Personally, I liked 2 & 7 but I'll email Ruban the developments to see which ones she likes and start producing physical development for our next meet up.
