Extended Practice Brief #5: 1st Meet Up [Ruban X Graphic Design Collab]

First meet up with Ruban my photography collaborator.

Intended Discusion:
  • Which business card design do you like the most and what to refine further?
  • Any other ideas on how the business card can be produced?
  • How many business cards would you like to be produced?
  • Any other collateral you'd want to be created?
  • How do you feel about creating a publication to go with the business card?
Outcome:
  • Landscape style was chosen
  • Take out the facebook handle as it's not really used a lot
  • Final Information on the business card: Full name, Phone Number, Email and Instagram handle
  • Prefer a grey/black colour palette
  • Instead of embossing clear or opaque plastic business card is preferred and had in mind already
  • Maybe create a 'travel pack' for branding - post card, stamp stickers
  • Possible publication to go along with the branding (with photos from Thailand)
  • Probably around 30 business cards?
Thoughts & Reflections:
It was a really good start to the collab and got some good feedback. I thought embossing would be a god idea, but I actually prefer the clear business car that she suggested and it also goes well with the business card design that she chose. The only thing is it wont have a back design since it's clear so i'll have to readjust all the info onto panel and also change the colour palette. I also need to check where I can print clear plastic card since James in the print room only have water based inks so the ink wont dry/ or only print on acetate which is too flimsy. Screen printing it would be time consuming and has the risk of getting it wrong as well, so the best option will probably be online.

I also like the travel pack idea which could be really nice and a nice way to create a cohesive collection of her photos and part  of her brand. Overall, it was a good first meet up, the next time we meet i'll be showing her a more refined version of the business card as well as designs for the travel pack and publication as well when she sends me her photos for usage.
