PPP Personal Branding: Business Card Initial Ideas

Following the portfolio development design that I've created I added a business card as part fo my personal branding, as an essential tool to use when networking especially face-to-face; but also it's an effective way of reflecting my practice through visuals on design.

Although, I was using a serif typeface as the main type for my portfolio and was also going to be spread throughout all my designs, I felt that it wasn't totally what I was looking for when implemented on  business card. It felt too much and to rigid rather that inviting, which is not what I am trying to reflect for my brand.

Changes:

  • use of sans serif typeface 'Nimbus Sans Extended Black' - its bold and striking yet neat and professional. *I felt it suited better than a serif typeface and will be easily implemented on the rest of the collateral that I am planning to create as it is simplistic and neutral. However, it does not completely, reflect the inviting and soft aesthetic that I also want to portray, but so far I am sticking to this type.
Concept:
  • Using my name 'Brylle' and how it's supposed to be pronounced 'Bra-il' as the main 'tagline' of the business card. I didn't want to have a logo as I think it's a bit unnecessary for me to have one, I'm not exactly established yet or a 'proper' brand myself I am just starting out!
  • Using 'baybayin' (a filipino script dialect) as part of it as well, showcasing a part of me and my culture
  • Probably two versions of business card? one in english and one completely in Baybayin?
  • After all the initial layouts I've experimented with, I decided to go with a  simple horizontal grid as the tagline on one side will be near full bleed, giving a bold statement and give an eye-catching attention to an audience. On the other side, the rest of the info. is set in a continuous style, with '/' breaks as I wanted them to be quite big as well to match the other side of it. Having the design quite big and bold highlights the type especially.
  • Using the actual type as grids for the smaller text like 'Designer' on the tagline give it a playful and dynamic aspect that should be further emphasised when colour is introduced during the development stage of the business card.
Thoughts & Reflection:
So far, I think it's a good start, I did change the typeface meaning I'll have to change it on the portfolio as well. Though, I really liked the serif on the portfolio, using it on the rest of my collateral isn't effective enough therefore changing it for the majority would be best!
