Extended Practice Brief #7: Irrational Fears [Context & Content Research] Survey Opinion on Masks

To gather more primary research on the topic I decided to create a survey to see how people react to public face mask wearing and their opinions on it.

I decided to use 4 direct questions as I wanted audiences raw reactions on the topic:

  • Do you wear facemask? - starts off the questionnaire setting the topic to the audience but also gives me an idea roughly how many people use it, as it can determine their later answers to the survey.
  • What are your thoughts on face mask? - answer dependant on the first questions whether it'll be positive or negative of in the middle
  • What are your thoughts on other people wearing face mask? - answer dependant on the first questions whether it'll be positive or negative of in the middle
  • Apart from during this pandemic, do you think face masks are important? - asks audiences for a definite answer and opinion regarding the topic to get clearance form their answers.
RESULTS!!!

  • Overall, The result was a result of both positive and mildly negative comments about wearing face masks. People who positively commented likely wore face masks as they would like its beneficial trait in their explanation like, “it protects others in case i’m a safe carrier of COVID-19” whilst people with mildly negative described it as “antisocial”. The small survey gave a rough view of how divided opinions are about the virus, which is important as most said it was essential however not for them but for the more vulnerable or key workers.
* I am also intending to use the result of the survey in the publication, as I wanted to show a more 'personal' and closer relation to the problems that are occuring right now. Doing this, I want the readers to realise that the problems I talk about in the publication aren't just in the news but are happening closer to home than we think.
